Firefighter Steyer was helping other firefighters move a pile of boards at the Ganhal Lumberyard fire on South Broadway. He lifted a heavy board, stumbled, and fell backwards onto a live electric wire. He was taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital where he died.
Firefighter Steyer served as a driver for Assistant Chief Salmon.
