On June 14, 1997 while on duty, Kenneth Wheat working as the flight nurse for Arch Air-Medical Services had learned that his crew was grounded due to bad weather. Nurse wheat decided to lay down, and the next morning members of the crew found that Nurse Wheat had passed away through the night.
In order to honor Nurse Wheat, his peers created an award. It is the "Ken Wheat Employee of the Year Award." Each nominee must exhibit the qualities of client service, leadership, teamwork, communication, a positive attitude, and compassion. It is the highest honor that ARCH Medical Service bestows on an employee
