On August 26, 2011 the Eurocopter AS-350 known as LifeNet 2-2 on which Paramedic Chris Frakes was working crashed in a field about 20 miles northeast of Kansas City while the crew was transporting a patient from Bethany Missouri to Liberty Missouri. Paramedic Frakes along with the other crew members (Randy Bever, James Freudenberg), and the patient on board all died in the crash.
He was survived by his mother, Jovita Wertenberger, Union Star; his fiance, Amber Gust, Savannah; his father, David Frakes (Kathleen), St. Joseph; his brothers: Billy Gillespie, St. Joseph; and Derrick Gillespie (Shandar), Independence; sisters: Bobbie Morgan, King City; Sammy Gillip (Terry), Helena; and Rayanne Robertson (Mark), St. Joseph; children, Chloe Frakes, Madison Cowman, Shelby Milbourn, and Baylee Thogmartin; grandmother, Alverta Frakes; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
