Incident

Firefighter Green died nearly six weeks following an accident in which the hose reel that he was driving collided with a car at Twenty-second and Olive Streets. Firefighter Green was thrown under the car and dragged nearly 100 feet, suffering severe internal injuries. Two other firefighters were injured in the accident.

Firefighter Green's wife Alice had died only ten days before the accident. Additionally, his brother Edward, also a member of the Saint Louis Fire Department, died in the line of duty in 1901 while fighting a fire at Eleventh and Locust Streets.
