Firefighter O'Sullivan was returning to station in (steam powered) Engine Company #5 after responding to a fire alarm at 11th and Walnut streets. On 11th between Holmes and Charlotte streets, he fell onto the roadway from the driver's seat. The wheel of the apparatus rolled over him causing fatal injuries.
There is 1 tribute for Firefighter Timothy O'Sullivan.
In 1886, Timothy entered the KCFD when he was 19 yrs old. He worked for the KCFD for 33 years. In 1919, at the age of 52 years, he died tragically of multiple injuries while on duty as an steam engine driver for Engine Company #5. Per the KCFD Annual report, while returning from a fire alarm at 11th & Walnut, Tim was accidentally jolted from his seat on the steamer and 'the wheel of the steamer passed over his body resulting in almost instant death'. His daughter, Teresa O'Sullivan O'Connor, kept the only known picture of Tim in a locket that she always wore & would tell his story to us children over the years. It is in both their memories that I submit this tribute.
