Firefighter Stiles was severely injured when he was thrown from the firetruck he was riding on when it crashed with a transport truck at 27th street and Jackson Avenue while responding to an alarm. He was transported to General Hospital where he died. The accident also took the life of Firefighter Harley Lee.
Firefighter Stiles was making his second response as a firefighter when the accident occurred.
