Incident

Firefighter Maher became disoriented in dense smoke on the sixth floor while fighting a fire in the J.W. Jenkins and Sons Music Company at 1013 Walnut Street. He was rescued by other firefighters, but died as a result of his injuries.

Captain John Maher, the father of Firefighter Maher, worked diligently at the scene to rescue his son.
