Members of Company #4 had returned to their station just after 5:00 pm following a fire at 3415 Chestnut Avenue. While eating dinner a short time later at the station, Captain Snead began to complain of indigestion and went to the rear of the station to lie down. Soon afterward, other firefighters found him dead of an apparent heart attack.
