Incident

Firefighter Larry Straughn of Engine Co. 19 died as the result of injuries incurred in an MVA on January 8, 1978.

The Apparatus Operator of Engine 19 lost control of the apparatus after crossing rail road tracks with numerous pot holes and struck a tree. FF Straughn was pinned in the wreckage and fellow firefighters used the Jaws-of-Life to free him.

He died from his injuries three weeks later on January 31, 1978.

Engine 19 was responding to a small fire caused by a cigarette in a linen closet at a Nursing Home.
