Incident

While off duty Firefighter Nastasio stopped by a fire house to visit friends after buying Easter clothes for his wife and four sons. When the alarm sounded he voluntarily responded to a large apartment fire. He was killed when a wall and porches fell on him at the scene of the fire. Also killed were Firefighter Melvin Kurtz and Firefighter Joseph Cooney.

Firefighter Nastasio was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
