Officer Sass was struck by a vehicle at 4:45 pm while directing traffic at Grand Boulevard and Chouteau Avenue. He was transported to City Hospital where he died at 7:35 pm of severe head injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck him was charged with careless driving and felonious wounding.
