Incident
As he was driving to a fire, Firefighter Metz leaned over to touch one of the horses with his whip and fell from his seat as he lost his balance. Holding onto the lines, he managed to get the horses to stop. However while one of the horses was backing up, it stepped on his chest causing the injuries that resulted in his death.
