Incident

Patrolman Wilke was shot and killed after he and his partner spotted a stolen vehicle near 8th and Oldham Sreets. The officers approached the vehicle and started to question the occupants. One of the occupants retrieved a gun from the back seat and shot Patrolman Wilke in the neck, killing him. Patrolman Wilke's partner returned fire and killed the assailant.
