Incident

As members of the Number 3 Hose Company directed water onto a fire in a dump on Walnut Street, an explosion occurred. The explosion severely injured Firefighter Douglass as well as injuring Firefighter P.J. Jones and Captain George Monahan. All three were transported to General Hospital and later transferred to St. Joseph Hospital where Firefighter Douglass died.
