Patrolman Daily was shot and killed while pursuing a burglary suspect in an alley.

Patrolman Daily was informed that a burglar was in the home of the State Fire Marshall. As he approached the home he saw the burglar jump from a window and run into an alley. Patrolman Daily was pursuing the burglar, when the suspect turned and fired twice at the officer. The bullets struck Patrolman Daily in the chest, killing him instantly.
