Incident

Patrolman Downs was shot and killed after she and her partner responded to disturbance call at the intersection of 7th Street and Broadway. After waiting several minutes and unable to find any one who had called the police, her estranged husband pulled into the lot. As Patrolman Downs approached he produced a handgun and shot her. He then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
