Patrolman Oyler was killed when his police car was struck head-on by a drunk driver traveling at approximately 80 mph.
Patrolman Oyler had just dropped his partner off at police headquarters and was returning to the city garage when the incident occurred.

The Louisville Division of Police has been disbanded and absorbed by the Louisville Metro Police Department.
