Incident

On Sunday December 7, 1941 Trooper Victor O. Dosing along with several other law enforcement officials responded to an apartment above the Coffee Pot Cafe near Springfield, Missouri to apprehend a murder suspect. Trooper Dosing along with another trooper walked up the exterior steps to the second story apartment in an attempt to arrest the suspect whom Tpr. Dosing knew from a previous arrest. As Tpr. Dosing grabbed the doorknob the door was quickly opened and the suspect fired a shot at Tpr. Dosing killing him instantly. The suspect also fired a second shot which critically wounded Trooper Dosing's partner. The suspect then retreated back into the apartment where he encountered gun fire from the additional officers. The suspect attempted to shoot his hysterical girlfriend, but his gun malfunctioned. He then went and obtained Trooper Dosing's handgun and committed suicide.

Trooper Victor O. Dosing, 34, was the third officer to be killed in the line of duty.
