Corporal Dennis Edward Engelhard

Corporal Engelhard was struck by a vehicle while completing a crash investigation during icy road conditions. He was standing behind his patrol vehicle waiting for a tow truck to arrive at a non-injury crash when another motorist lost control and struck him.

The incident occurred on westbound Interstate-44 east of Eureka at 10:30 on Christmas morning.

Corporal Engelhard was transported to St. Clair Health Center where he died from his injuries at 11:20 a.m.

Corporal Dennis E. Engelhard, 49, was the 28th member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to make the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the citizens of Missouri.
