Incident

An officer was attempting to make an arrest at a bonfire near Hancock and Green Street when another subject interfered. Patrolman Coulter struggled with the second subject and the two then exchanged gunshots. Patrolman Coulter was shot twice and died approximately 30 minutes later.

The subject also suffered gunshot wounds but survived. He was charged with murder but claimed self defense and was acquitted in a jury trial.
