Incident

Officer Cannon was shot and killed instantly by an unknown pair of individuals in front of the grocery store of J.B. Starks, Jr., at the northwest corner of Jackson and Roselane Streets at about 6:35 p.m. It is believed that Officer Cannon who had just started his shift at 6:00 p.m. was on his way from the police station to Engine House #9 near the corner of Jackson and Roselane Streets when he was fatally shot. This is near the same spot where Officer Edward Byrnes of the Louisville Police Department was murdered in 1895.
