Patrolman Bossung died after contracting tetanus as a result of being dragged by horses ten days earlier.
Patrolman Bossung was answering a call when the horses' harness became tangled. As he attempted to untangle the harness, the horses bolted, dragging him behind. He received a cut on his head which required 12 stitches, which lead to him contracting tetanus.
