Incident

Lieutenant Drake and other members of the German Township VFD responded to a report of someone having difficulty breathing. They assisted with treating and loading the patient for transport and returned to service at 12:24 P.M.

Lieutenant Drake returned to the firehouse and began conducting equipment checks. At 2:45 P.M., Lieutenant Drake's wife called 911 to report he was having severe chest pain -- she was visiting him at the firehouse. Shortly afterward, Lieutenant Drake advised his medical condition via radio.

While being transported via ambulance, Lieutenant Drake went into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at Columbus Regional Hospital.
