Deputy Constable Johnson was shot and killed by a man he had arrested earlier in the day. The suspect was later released from custody and Deputy Constable Johnson returned his revolver to him.
A short time later the suspect returned to the restaurant where he had been arrested. As Deputy Johnson and another officer approached the store, the suspect ordered them not to enter. When the lawmen failed to comply, the suspect opened fire.
The suspect and another man were both apprehended and charged in connection with the murder.
