His parents
Sergeant Drury was caught in a flashover while making entry into a single story house. He suffered severe burns to his lungs that would cause his death less than one month later.
The fire was set by an arsonist who was upset over an interracial adoption.
Sergeant Drury's father, Ted, was the Chief of the Fire District and was on the scene at the time of the incident.

I was Craig's friend. He always showed me kindness. I remember vividly, riding with him in that big red truck during many Crusade for Children weekends. I also remember looking his dad, the Chief, in the eye at the funeral as I said my goodbye. Craig's Tree is still behind station 1. I have nothing but contempt for the selfish person who started the fire that took him from his friends and family. I wish Craig knew what an impact he had on me as a young man, and in my career choice. God bless Craig and the Drury family. He was a hero, and he was my friend. ~An Eagle Scout-Troop 461
