Incident

EMT Wiener was serving in Iraq as a Navy Corpsman assigned to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He joined the service following the terrorist attacks September 11, 2001.

Insurgents took control of a civilian hospital to stage an attack following a suicide bomb in a vehicle exploding approximately 30 feet from the patient ward.

A firefight ensued between the insurgents and marines that lasted about four hours.

EMT Wiener was shot and killed during that firefight.
